Pattaya Hotels in Thailand - Where to Find the Best

Pattaya City is one of the most visited destinations in Thailand. It's close proximity to the capital city of Bangkok makes Pattaya the closest get away beach resort. But Pattaya is not most well known for its beaches. No, for beaches its better to take a tour outside of Pattaya for snorkeling and swimming. Pattaya is most well known for it raucous seedy nightlife that attracts men from all over the world like children to Disney Land.
Now if you are a first time visitor to Pattaya and would like to enjoy its nightlife offerings you should stay on or near Walking Street. Walking Street is jam packed with bars of every imaginable kind. You can find pool bars, go-go bars, hostess bars, beer gardens or large outdoor pubs. And in these establishment which oddly enough are owned by expats are filled with Thai women who keep company with customers. My personal advice is that you should go check out their coyote bar clubs.
Now I wouldn't recommend Pattaya for families, but I do see vacationing Western parents covering the eyes of their little ones every time they pass by a go-go bar. So for whatever reason, if you have a family and you want to take them to Pattaya, its better off that you stay away from Walking Street and Pattaya Beach during night time. As for accommodations it would be a good idea to stay in hotels near Jomtien Beach which is due south of Pattaya Beach. I actually prefer Jomtien Beach and if I had kids I'd prefer them to play there instead.
There is another beach area where you can still be close to the heart of the nightlife in Pattaya and its called Wong Amat Beach. The hotels in Wong Amat Beach are also suitable for children and the hotels and resorts there are among some of the best.
So those are the three main locations for hotels. Now as far as pricing goes Pattaya hotels base their rates on season and location. The high season is typically from October to April, the coolest months. During the low season you can find hotel room rates slashed by at least half. I hear a lot of other hotel reviews say that hotel rates are cheaper outside of Pattaya Beach. My opinion is that hotels near Pattaya beach are worth their price in value. Because its close to the nightlife action and very convenient. I know for a fact that hotels are better priced and you get more for your money when you are closer to the nightlife action of Pattaya. Why?
Well because the area of Pattaya Beach have the most concentrations of hotels who are fighting tooth and nail for your business. So they are competing against each other which is good news for you. Also you don't need to travel far to enjoy the nightlife. Choosing a hotel in Pattaya Thailand gives many advantages to travelers. With a low currency base and the wonderful services and accommodations, Thailand offers a vacation of a lifetime, without breaking the bank.

The "Tourism and Hospitality Management" (THM) major is designed to prepare undergraduate students for management careers in the tourism and hospitality industries. Students will study the core courses required of all students pursuing a Bachelors of Business Administration degree. This core will provide a foundation of business skills critical for all business students in the College of Business and Leadership. Building on this core business foundation, THM students will take 21 required hours in coursework specific to THM including a required internship. Complementing these required courses will be 12 hours of electives taken from upper-division courses in Management and Marketing. Graduates from this major will be well prepared to assume managerial roles in these industries.

The purpose of the THM program is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, values, and strategic perspectives essential to obtaining leadership roles in the hospitality service professions in western Kansas, the region, the domestic market, and throughout the world. This need will align with the goal for FHSU to attract Hispanic students from southwest Kansas.

Kakadu National Park is one of the most famous parks in the world. It is located in the Northern Territory of Australia and is about 200 kilometers (124 miles) east of Darwin. It was the 1986 movie "Crocodile Dundee" that brought the park into the forefront, and today it is very popular tourist destination.
The park is the ancestral land of a tribe of aborigines known as Gagjudju. In 1978, the tribe leased the land to the Australian National Parks and Wildlife Service. In 1979, the park became a National Park and now it also designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

That honour is held by Taiwan, whose Taipei 101 structure measures a lofty 509m in height, almost 70m taller than Chicago's Sears Tower, the United States' tallest building.
While Taiwan can claim to have the world's largest industrial building, Dubai can lay claim to having the world's tallest hotel. In fact, Dubai is home to three out of the top ten world's tallest hotels with the Rose Tower - despite still being under construction - the tallest at a height of 333 metres. When construction began, the Rose Tower was supposed to reach 380 metres - the height of the Empire State Building. However, design modifications led to its projected height being reduced, and while it is still under construction, the honour of tallest hotel is unofficial.
Pyongyang, the capital city of North Korea is home to what would have been the second tallest hotel, the Ryugyong Hotel. With 105 stories rising to a height of 330 metres, the Ryugong Hotel is a towering, empty concrete shell, which has stood unfinished since 1992. King Rama I had the Temple of the Emerald Buddha made in 1784 in the outer court of the Grand Palace purely to keep this now sacred object. He also had two seasonal costumes made, one for the dry season and one for the wet. The ceremony in which the Buddha's costume is changed takes place three times a year and the King himself performs it.
Because of the sanctity of this temple, visitors are expected dress in long sleeves and covered legs. When they sit they should sit with their feet pointing away from the Buddha.
Along the perimeter walls is a stunning mural that depicts scenes from the epic Ramakian fable. This mural is under constant restoration and as you walk around the courts that surround the grand palace you will constantly see people undertaking this painstaking task.

We had such a fantastic time in Botswana, that I cried when we had to leave. Being South African myself probably made it harder as we were heading back to the States after 6 weeks.We stayed first at a small camp called Zibalianja in the Linyanti swamp north of Maun. It has only 3 chalets and is known as the smallest camp in Africa. If you like that somewhat intimate setting, just like one small family together.
Our second camp was Xakanaxa in the Moremi game reserve in the Okavango Delta. The setting here was spectacular, right on the delta. Bob and Flo (our hosts) are just fantastic people. I could have stayed another week. Mandy from Island Safari did a superb job. I just went onto the web and wrote the first people I could find - which happened to be Mandy. She answered all my questions the very next day. I wrote to one outfit to compare, and it took 5 days to get a reply.
We couldn't have asked for better as they were professional, prompt and friendly. There are many camps in the delta which we personally preferred because the waterways make the setting so beautiful. The game was wonderful. Everything from lions to cheetah, from hippos to elephants was sighted. One hippo (Pavarotti) is used to coming out of the delta and roaming the camp. He slept behind our tent one night, because they saw his footprints there. Fortunately we don't sleep walk.

26 injured as Luas and bus collide

"Twenty-six people were injured tonight after a double-decker bus and tram crashed in one of Dublins busiest city centre streets.
The Luas driver, two men and a woman had a miraculous escape after being trapped in the mangled wreckage and cut free by rescue teams.

A relative of the woman was involved in the emergency operation holding bolt cutters for fire crews.

The driver and the woman were stretchered away after suffering serious injuries.

It was serious enough as there were serious injuries and people were trapped, a Dublin Fire Brigade spokesman said.

The accident happened at the corner of Abbey Street and OConnell Street just before 3pm involving the number 16 bus to Santry and the Luas from Tallaght.

The tram de-railed on impact and ploughed into the side of the bus, pinning terrified passengers against broken glass and twisted seats.

It is understood the majority of passengers suffered minor injuries with many described as walking wounded.

Others suffered fractured ribs, bruising and cuts to the face and head.

Three fire engines, four ambulances and a paramedic team were among the emergency services that attended the scene.

Twenty-one people were taken to the Mater Hospital, though one was later transferred to Beaumont where three had already been brought.

Two were taken to St Jamess Hospital.

Dublin Bus has launched a probe into the crash and it is expected investigators will look at whether a systems failure caused the collision or if the lights at the busy junction were jumped.

The accident sparked traffic chaos in the capital as rush hour motorists tried to make their way home.

Fine Gael called for the findings of any probe to be made public.

Senator Paschal Donohoe said: My main concern is for passengers injured in this unthinkable collision.

It is imperative that this crash be urgently investigated and that the findings be published.

The public must have complete confidence in the safety of both the Luas and bus and this must be restored with a thorough investigation.

Earlier this year, 10 people miraculously escaped injury after the roof was ripped off a double decker bus when it crashed into a tree.

The bus was making its way along a designated bus lane on Dublins North Strand towards Artane in February when it struck the overhanging tree.

One of the last major transport accidents happened five years ago when a Dublin Bus vehicle lost control and mounted a city centre pavement ploughing into a queue of passengers.

Five people were killed and others injured in the accident at a bus stop on Wellington Quay in February 2004.

Early last year a pedestrian was killed after being hit by the Luas the first person to be killed in an accident involving the light-rail system since it began operating in 2004.

More accidents occur on the red line Tallaght route than on the Green Sandyford line because of the number of signal junctions."

In anticipation of my upcoming trip to Ottawa next weekend I have started to do some research and contacted Ottawa Tourism. Ottawa, as Canada's capital, is one of Canada's most popular travel destinations and it has a great variety destinations, activities and events to offer.
I had an opportunity to talk with Jantine Van Kregten from Ottawa Tourism who was kind enough to give me a great general overview of things to see and do in Ottawa.
1. Please provide us with some general information about Ottawa. How large is the city, where is it located, what is the weather like?
Ottawa is the capital of Canada, and its fourth largest city. With the neighbouring city of Gatineau in the province of Quebec, the region has about 1.2 million people. Ottawa is located in eastern Ontario, about four hours' drive northeast of Toronto; two hours west of Montreal; and one hour north of the border with the state of New York.
Ottawa enjoys four distinct seasons, with warmest temperatures and sometimes high humidity in July and August; a temperate fall with gorgeous fall colours; a cold and snowy winter; and a wet spring.
2. How can one get to Ottawa and what is the best way of getting around in Ottawa?
Ottawa is accessible with direct flights from major centres in Canada and several U.S. cities including New York, Washington, Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, Atlanta and more. Ottawa is a major stop along the Windsor-Quebec City corridor of VIA Rail and bus service also links the city with other Canadian cities.
By car, major thoroughfares include Highway 416 that links Ottawa with Highway 401. Highway 417 runs through the city, while Autoroutes 5, 50 and 148 are the major highways on the Quebec side of the river.
3. Ottawa is Canada's capital and has played a significant role in the history of this country. Please tell us more about that and the Canadian Heritage Experiences offered in Ottawa.
The story of Ottawa begins with the building of the Rideau Canal between 1826 and 1832 by Lt. Col. John By of the Royal Engineers and thousands of mostly Irish labourers. The Canal stretches 202 km (126 miles) through eastern Ontario to the St. Lawrence River and was built to ensure a supply line in case of American attack (which never came). The Canal was never used for a military purpose and its 49 locks are still operated in the same way as when they were built. In fact, the Rideau Canal is Canada's nominee to be named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is expected in 2007, the 175th anniversary of its construction.
Queen Victoria decreed in 1857 that Ottawa would be the capital of the country that became Canada. The majestic Parliament Buildings were constructed shortly thereafter and remain a "must-see" attraction in the capital. As the capital, Ottawa is also home to 24 Sussex Drive (the prime minister's residence and not open to the public); Rideau Hall (home of the Governor General, with guided tours of residence and gardens available); and dozens of high commissions and embassies from governments around the world.
Don't miss Laurier House, home to both Sir Wilfrid Laurier and WIlliam Lyon Mackenzie King, two former prime ministers, or the Mackenzie King Estate, King's summer home in Gatineau Park.
4. Please tell us about some of the major attractions, museums and galleries in the Ottawa area.
The latest addition to the national museum scene is the impressive Canadian War Musuem, which opened in May 2005 in a stunning location next to the Ottawa River. Canada's most-visited museum is Gatineau's Canadian Museum of Civilization. The National Gallery of Canada offers the largest collection of Canadian art, along with European and American masters. Other cultural facilities include the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography; the Canada Aviation Museum; the Canada Science and Technology Museum; the Canada Agriculture Museum; the Royal Canadian Mint; the Currency Museum of the Bank of Canada; and the Canadian Museum of Nature, currently in the midst of a massive renovation project, to be completed in 2009.
Other museums include the Bytown Museum, which tells the history of Ottawa's early days, including the building of the Rideau Canal; the Billings Estate Museum that traces the history of a prominent local family; and the funky Diefenbunker, Canada's Cold War Museum, a four-storey underground bunker that was constructed between 1959 and 1961 as the location to which the Canadian political and military elite would ride out the effects of a nuclear attack.
5. Our readers would like to find out about the festivals and special events in Ottawa.
The festival scene in Ottawa is a robust, year-round affair. The year kicks off with Winterlude, a huge winter festival held over the first three weekends in February. In March, the Irish community celebrates Irish week, and in March and April, the maple syrup season spawns a number of delicious festivals and events celebrating this tasty treat.
May belongs to the Canadian Tulip Festival--three weeks of celebration of Ottawa's favourite flower. During World War II, the Dutch royal family took refuge in Ottawa and Princess Margriet was born here, in a hospital room designated Dutch soil for the event. Canadians played a huge role in liberating the Netherlands and when the royal family returned home after the war, as a gesture of friendship, respect and appreciation, they sent thousands of tulip bulbs. The bulbs have followed every year since and now 3,000,000 tulips bloom in Canada's Capital Region.
Late May brings Canada's largest marathon as part of the Ottawa Race Weekend. Over the summer months, festivals abound: Doors Open Ottawa showcase heritage buildings; Italian Week; the Ottawa Fringe Festival; the TD Canada Trust Ottawa International Jazz Festival; the Nortel Ottawa Dragon Boat Race Festival; Cisco Systems Ottawa Bluesfest (Canada's largest); the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival (the world's largest); the Sound of Light fireworks festival; Ottawa Busker Festival; Ottawa GreekFest; CKCU Ottawa Folk Festival; the Central Canada Exhibition; and Pride Week.
On Parliament Hill, two free activities occur daily in the summer: the 10:00 a.m. Changing the Guard ceremony and the evening Sound and Light Show.
In the fall, the Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival colours the skies; while the La Vendemmia Harvest Festival tempts visitors' palates. The Ottawa International Animation Festival showcases artists from around the world while the Ottawa International Writers Festival provides a forum for authors' lively debates. Fall Rhapsody celebrates the splendid autumn colours.

6. What about restaurants and entertainment / nightlife areas in Ottawa?
Several neighbourhoods offer entertainment options in Ottawa. The ByWard Market is one of Ottawa's oldest neighbourhoods and also functions as its entertainment district, with over 100 food and drink options in just a four-block-square area. Whether it's fine dining, a good diner, a cosy bistro, or a romantic cafe, you can find it in "the Market."
Elgin Street is another popular nightlife area, with an eclectic selection of bars, restaurants and cafes in just a few blocks. Bank Street offers three or four distinct areas along its length, including a popular area known as the Glebe. In the near west end, Westboro is also an attractive option for dinner and drinks.
Of course, one could also choose to explore the various options at the Casino du Lac-Leamy--whether it's gaming excitement or a show at its popular theatre or a dinner at its five-diamond restaurant Le Baccara. The region's other five-diamond establishment (two of only 11 across Canada) is Signatures at Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa.
7. Please give us an overview of the performing arts on offer in Ottawa.
The National Arts Centre is Canada's premier performing arts centre, offering English and French theatre performances, dance, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Numerous smaller theatres also abound, in both English and French, including the Great Canadian Theatre Company, La Nouvelle Scene, Ottawa Little Theatre, Third Wall Theatre Company, Odyssey Theatre (offering outdoor performances next to the Rideau River), A Company of Fools, and many productions at Arts Court, a municipal facility.
From May 18 to June 11, the Cirque du Soleil will bring its production of Quidam to Ottawa. The Canada Dance Festival takes place every two years (June 2-10, 2006) in Ottawa and the Ottawa Fringe Festival (also in June) is one of the best ways to see new productions and new innovations. In
The Centrepointe Theatre in the west end offers a variety of performances, as do the University of Ottawa and Carleton University.
Larger events are usually held at Scotiabank Place and the Ottawa Civic Centre.
8. What are some of the shopping opportunities in Ottawa?
Some great shopping centres exist in Ottawa, including Bayshore Shopping Centre in the west end, Rideau Centre downtown, the St. Laurent Centre in the close east end, and Place d'Orleans Shopping Centre in the east end. These centres offer the best of the well-known brands.
For more eclectic offerings, the ByWard Market neighbourhood offers great fashion and housewares; as does the Glebe, Westboro, and some small towns on both the Ontario and Quebec side of the Ottawa River--inclouding Merrickville, Manotick, Perth, Chelsea and Wakefield.
9. What are the outdoor, recreational and sports opportunities in and around Ottawa?
From a professional perspective, the Ottawa Senators are particularly beloved by Ottawans, as they march to a Stanley Cup victory! The Ottawa '67s offer a window to the Ontario Hockey League. The Ottawa Renegades provide Canadian Football League excitement while the Ottawa Lynx are part of baseball's International League (they're the Triple A farm team for the Baltimore Orioles).
But sports in Ottawa are much more participatory than that. Home to hundreds of kilometres of recreational pathways, Ottawans love to cycle, inline skate and hike. The Ottawa River offers unbelievable whitewater rafting, as well as canoe and kayak adventures for the adventurous.
The highest bungee freefall in Canada is located just north of Ottawa, just outside Gatineau Park. Year-round, Gatineau Park offers something for the outdoor lover. Whether it's camping, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking or swimming in summer; or snowshoeing or cross-country skiing in winter, the Park is beloved by all in the region.
As proof of how diverse a destination Ottawa is, it's the only location where you can skate on the world's largest skating rink and play in the world's largest beach volleyball tournament?
10. What type of accommodations options are there in Ottawa?
There are over 11,000 hotel rooms in the Ottawa-Gatineau region. The major chains (Hilton, Fairmont, Westin, Marriott, Delta, Sheraton, Novotel, Holiday Inn, Best Western, Comfort Inn) are represented, as well as more unique offerings such as the boutique ARC the.hotel or Brookstreet Resort.
Downtown locations are within walking distance to many major attractions. Several bed-and-breakfast providers also offer a cosy alternative to hotels.

11. What are some of the major events and big news stories coming up in 2006 and beyond in Ottawa?
The Canadian Museum of Civilization celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2006. It began its life in May 1856, as part of the Geological Survey of Canada. The young museum grew into the National Museum of Canada and then, into the National Museum of Man. In 1986, it became the Canadian Museum of Civilization, moving into its magnificent Gatineau buildings three years later and continuing to present informative and entertaining exhibitions for a wide range of interests.
The Casino du Lac-Leamy celebrates 10 years of non-stop excitement in March 2006. Originally opened as the Casino de Hull, it has grown to be one of the top attractions in Canada’s Capital Region, offering gaming each day from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.; five-diamond dining at Le Baccara; an adjoining Theatre offering matinees, musical programming, and variety shows of all kinds; docking facilities; an adjacent Hilton hotel with spa; and conference facilities. The Casino is celebrating with a series of themed activities, including the popular 7 Lucky Days promotion which offers a different promotion each day of the week.
Emily Carr is the featured exhibition from June 2 through September 3, 2006 at the National Gallery of Canada. Her paintings of First Nations villages and landscapes of the northwest Pacific coast, including many images of totem poles, help define Canadian art, especially that of the early 1900s.
In the third Indiana Jones movie, the climactic scene took place in a spectacular desert location carved into the side of a cliff. That venue is part of Petra, located in Jordan, and from April 7, 2006 through January 2, 2007, you can learn more at the Canadian Museum of Civilization's exhibition PETRA: City of Stone.
The Seven Years War is the focus of a new exhibit at the Canadian War Museum, Ottawa’s newest cultural attraction which opened with much fanfare in May 2005. The exhibit Clash of Empires: The War That Made Canada runs from May 18 to November 12.
Outdoor activities are a crucial part of Ottawans’ lives. This summer, residents will be able to relish in others’ accomplishments, too, as Ottawa plays host to more than 3,500 athletes and coaches during the 2006 Ontario Summer Games from August 9 to 13, 2006.
Québec Scene: April/May 2007: The National Arts Centre has played host to two previous “scenes”—Atlantic Scene in 2003 and Alberta Scene in 2005—and in 2007, it’s Québec’s turn to shine, as the very best of its theatre, music, dance, comedy, culinary arts, literature and film forms the basis of this cultural festival.
Treasures from Beijing: May 11-September 30, 2007: At the Canadian Museum of Civilization, learn more about the development of Chinese civilization while viewing selected treasures from the National Museum of China. There will also be an attempt to provide a glimpse of China’s recent history, including economic reforms and the Olympic Games bid.
Renoir’s Landscapes: June 8-September 9, 2007: One of the best-loved of all the Impressionists, Renoir will be front and centre next summer at the National Gallery of Canada.
FIFA World Youth Championship 2007: July 1-22, 2007: Ottawa has been selected as one of six Canadian host cities for this three-week, 24-nation, 52-match tournament featuring the best youth (under-20) soccer players in the world. It is the second largest event staged by FIFA, following the FIFA World Cup.
Rideau Canal as UNESCO World Heritage Site: The heritage Rideau Canal, stretching 202 km from Ottawa to Kingston, is Canada’s entry to be named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The designation should be received in time for the 175th anniversary of the completion of the Canal in 2007.
Portrait Gallery of Canada: Following last spring’s opening of the new Canadian War Museum, the next major cultural institution planned for Ottawa is the Portrait Gallery of Canada, due to open across the street from Parliament Hill in late 2007.

The thing I like doing most in Paris, by far, is roaming the crooked romantic streets of its famous Latin Quarter. This may be the most famous neighborhood on the planet. The Latin Quarter got its name from the Latin-speaking students way back when, when the area was dominated by the Sorbonne.
The best place to start your exploration of the Latin Quarter might be the huge fountain by Davioud at the head of the boulevard Saint-Michel. This is a great spot to find a place to sit or just to lean and watch all the stylish and chic people pass by. It's also a great meeting place: "Meet me at the fountain!" Then, facing the fountain, begin your wandering east and south into the neighborhood. And if you get lost, so much the better.
Such interesting streets here. The streets aren't laid out in that mind-numbing way most modern-day developers lay out streets: every street running north and south or east and west to infinity. No, these streets meander. They are crooked. They are charming and narrow, and there is always something photographable to be found around the next bend.
The Musee de Cluny is worth a visit. You will find Gallo-Roman ruins and medieval arts and crafts inside a medieval mansion. Be sure to hunt out the ancient and beautiful churches of the Latin Quarter, Saint-Severin & Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre. I will give you no directions to them; the fun is in seeking them out. Don't worry, you won't get lost; but if you do get lost, more's the fun!
Place Maubert (Metro: Maubert/Mutualite) is a beautiful square. I like to take first-time visitors to Paris there, and lead them from there to Notre Dame; and when we reach the river Seine, they get a great view of the dramatic (and most beautiful) east side of the cathedral, with its pronounced & graceful flying buttresses.
There are plenty of great bookshops to explore. You will also find quick food from many nationalities here. Food vendors will tempt you right on the street as they carve their lamb and beef beneath your nose and before your eyes. So sample whatever you think your stomach can bear.
You might want to end things at the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens, where you can cool off in a shady spot. It's easy to find. It's down the boulevard Saint-Michel, just about opposite the Sorbonne. You can't miss it: just look for greenery, flowers...a palace.

Ha Long Bay is located in northern Vietnam, east of Hai Phong City on the way to Mong Cai on the China Border. The scenery of Halong Bay is fantastic - awesome in fact. Halong Bays status has changed dramatically since it was named a World Heritage Site in 1994. Once a sleepy port, it now attracts thousands of tourists from all corners of the globe.
The Vietnamese call it "Vinh Halong" meaning "Bay of the Descending Dragon". The bay was named after a local legend which tells of a Dragon descending from the sky and spitting out thousands of pearls when Vietnam was being attacked by overseas ships. The pearls turned into a string of islands, stopping the foreign ships from landing on Vietnam's mainland.
These rocks are largely limestone and spread out over a large area. Some of the formations have images in them such as the "Dog Rock" and "Two Cocks Fighting".

(Many people don't know what the original term spa referred to an actual town that had hot springs. Instead of calling it a town they called it a "spa".) What is This Term Insurance All About?

Clarifying the differences between Whole Life, Universal Life, and Term Life Insurance.
PLEASE NOTE: I am an engineer, video production specialist, not an insurance salesman or expert on the field. What you see in this video is information presented to me by Primerica training, when I had a brief stint with them in 2006. I do not claim this information as necessarily accurate.

People often use the expression term insurance and think that they are talking about something other than life insurance. Well gang, term insurance is another form of life insurance. Let me get into a little more explanation and see if I can clarify some things for you.

Life insurance in its original design covered a person's life for a specific amount of time and paid a specific amount of money to a beneficiary upon that person's death. Thus life insurance, you were covered for your life. Calculations for costs were made, based on average life expectancy, cost of running a business and current long term investment returns. Actuaries would take all this information and calculate the amount of money a person would pay per thousand dollars of coverage and come up with a cost - for life.

Things changed over time. People had short term financial obligations like mortgages, lines of credit etc, wanted to insure it, but only for a certain period of time, or as you would have it, for a "term". That is where the expression " term insurance" came to pass. Rather than covering a person for their life expectancy, they were only covered for a term.

This brings the cost of the life insurance down. Think of it this way. Your car insurance premiums and your house insurance premiums are usually established for a year at a time. When your renewal comes up each year there is a "price change", usually up. This is really "one year term insurance", except it is on your house or car, not your life. If your car insurance broker said that you could have your rates "guaranteed" for 10 years, it would then become a 10 year "term insurance" plan on your car. We all know the average cost for the 10 years will be greater than if you had it one year at a time.

Just imagine if your car insurance broker suggested that you could get car insurance with a guaranteed cost for the rest of your life. It would never happen and if it did, the costs would appear high now, but 20 years from now the cost would probably sound cheap.

Hope this helps in your thinking. Term insurance is really life insurance with the costs adjusted every so many years. As well, most term insurance gets prohibitively more expensive when you get into your late 60's. With the exception of term to 100, which requires an entirely separate discussion, most term insurance runs out by age 80 or sooner, probably when you will need it the most.
